GUACO
Gustavo Aguado
General Director - Singer
Gustavo Aguado
Gustavo was born on the 3rd of November. 1949 in Maracaibo (Venezuela), he started a very successful music career when he was just a teenager by becoming part of the band "Las Estrellas del Zulia" and later joining "Los Guacos del Zulia" when the band was just a student music project, later on the name of the band changed and from 1970 they were called "Los Guacos". His very wide music taste lead him to experiment with new sounds in his band between 1972 and 1979. The strong influence of professor Aldemaro Romero and his very popular "Onda Nueva" style and the influence of many other latin american artists shaped the sound of his music which had the rhythmic power of the traditional venezuelan "Gaita" and mixed smoothly with that Caribbean rhythm known as: "Salsa". Gustavo Aguado plays the "Cuatro" and percussion instruments such as Congas but he is mainly a singer who has been the leader and the front image of GUACO for more than 30 years. Gustavo is specially fond by the Latin percussion, Jazz, Rock, orchestral music and even by ethnic music, he has developed his own style which is strongly influenced by the music of spanish and cuban artists such as: Ikere, Chucho Valdez, NG la Banda, Climax, Ketama y la Barberia del Sur. The sound of GUACO has evolved tremendously with Gustavo as a leader, the fusion with the latin jazz, pop and such styles has detached its sound from the venezuelan "Gaita" and the result is a new modern sound which has its very unique stamp among the wide variety of latin music styles.
